The Budding Readers has been serving the Midlakes community since 2011. Look for information in your school newsletter, on posters around town, and at both the Clifton Springs Library and the Phelps Community Memorial Library.
Babies up to 36 months of age in the Phelps-Clifton-Springs School District can receive a free “bundle of books” along with our Parent Guide, which contains tips for reading to babies and young children. Age-appropriate books for siblings through age 7 are also provided.
Families who have received a bundle of books for their babies are also mailed a coupon three times each year (through age 5). Coupons are mailed to families for March, Summer and December events. They can bring the coupon to the Phelps or Clifton Springs Library and select a new free book.
Budding Readers also gifts a new book for each entering UPK, Kindergarten, and First Grade student in the Midlakes district three times each year. In addition, each of their teachers receives a pack of eight books to use in their classroom.
The Midlakes program was originally created and coordinated by Linda Bolan and Anne Wyjad, who continue to contribute to the Midlakes program and the overall Budding Readers program. In 2017, the leadership for the Midlakes program shifted to Janice Driscoll, retired principal of the Midlakes Intermediate School.
