"Reading aloud with children is known to be the single most important activity for building the knowledge and skills they will eventually require for learning to read."

  Budding Readers - Victor

The Victor Community Program began in 2017 and has been modeled after our successful Canandaigua Program.
Both programs work in partnership with the Finger Lakes WIC (Women, Infants and Children) office in Canandaigua.  Interested WIC families who live in the Victor School District and have babies under 24 months of age can recieve a free "bundle of books" and our Parent Guide, which contains tips for reading to babies and young children.  A gift of age-appropriate books for siblings through age 7 is also provided.  To date, more than 22 bundles of books have been delivered.

Budding Readers annually provides a new book for each UPK student in Victor.

In addition, any Victor or Farmington family who attends birthing classes at Thompson Hospital will receive a bundle of books from Budding Readers.

The Victor program is anchored by three retired educators from Victor: Marilyn DeLucia, Nancy Johnstone, and Mary Presutti-Lancto.

"You may have tangible wealth untold. Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold. Richer than I you can never be.  I had a mother who read to me."
