Budding Readers - Canandaigua
The Canandaigua Community Program has partnered with the Finger Lakes WIC (Women, Infants and Children) office in Canandaigua. Interested WIC families who live in the Canandaigua School District and have babies up to 24 months of age can recieve a free "bundle of books" and our Parent Guide, which contains tips for reading to babies and young children. A gift of age-appropriate books for siblings through age 7 is also provided. More than 230 "bundles" have been delivered to Canandaigua families since January 2012!
Budding Readers also provides a new book for each entering UPK and Head Start student in Canandaigua.
In addition, any Canandaigua family who attends birthing classes at Thompson Hospital will receive a bundle of books from Budding Readers.
The Canandaigua program was started by Ann Hedges, retired teacher from the Canandaigua School District. Ann dedicated five years to creating and nurturing the Canandaigua program and the overall Budding Readers program.
The program is currently coordinated by Linda Collins, retired teacher from the Victor School District, who lives in Canandaigua.

- Strickland Gillilan
